TIMERGARA: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq on Saturday said socialists and communists had been invited to attend the three-day public convention at Lahore`s Minar-i-Pakistan on Nov 21.
He also said non-Muslims were invited to the event and that a separate camp would be set up at the convention`s venue for them.
The JI chief was addressing an event organised here at a fishing hut in Chakdara to collect donations from workers for the Nov 21 event.
JI provincial chief Professor Ibrahim, deputy chief Mushtaq Ahmad, provincial information secretary Israrullah, MNA Sahibzada Tariqullah and hundreds of party workers were in attendance.
Siraj said his party had planned to organise the oppressed and helpless people of the country and the Nov 21 public convention would the first step towards it.
He said it was unfortunate that on one hand, the Pakistani government had freed American killer of two Pakistanis, Remond Devis but on the other, it wassilent on the detention of a Pakistani woman, Dr Afia Siddiqui, for `a crime she hadn`t committed.
The JI chief said the Pakistan Tehreeki-Insaf had agreed to resume dialogue with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government to resolve the current political situation.
He said the government should name its team for dialogue with the PTI to steer the country out of the current political turmoil.
Siraj said the political jirga led by him had averted the imposition of martial law in the country.
He said the PTI had agreed to exclude `un-Islamic contents` from textbooks taught at government schools in the province.
`The PTI leadership has assured us of positive changes in school curriculum.
Islamic contents will be included in textbooks,` he said.
Later, the JI chief told reporters that he was hopeful that both the government and the PTI would manage to resolve the current political crisis by dialogue.
He said earlier, the government had agreed to accept PTI chief Imran Khan`s demands on election reforms and formation of judicial inquiry into election rigging.
Siraj said the post of theology teacher at government schools of the province would be restored in the next financial year.
