Murderer sentenced to death

KARACHI: A sessions court sentenced on Wednesday a man to death in a murder case.

Mohammad Bilal was found guilty of killing Mohammad Waseem in Mehmoodabad in Sept 2011. Additional district and sessions judge (South) Hifz-ur-Rehman read out the conviction order after hearing evidence of witnesses and concluding arguments from both sides.

The court also directed the convict to pay a compensation of Rs100,000 to the legal heirs of the deceased. However, the court ruled that the capital punishment was subject to the confirmation of high court.

Pray, court rules In an unusual ruling, a sessions court convicted a man in an illicit weapon case on Wednesday and ordered him to offer prayers regularly for three years.

Accused Yusuf Khan pleaded guilty and an additional district and sessions judge (West) handed the convict over to the probation officer and ordered the convict to pray five times a day till three years at a mosque in Jacl(son; the prayer leader will forward a report in this regard after every 15 days to the probation officer. The convict will suffer sevenyear jail and pay a fine of Rs50,000 if he failed to comply with the court order. The accused was arrested in 2014.
