SAHIWAL: An old man who was brutally tortured by his son for not transferring 12-acre hereditary land to him, succumbed to his injuries in a L ahore hospital on Tuesday night.

Bashir Ahmad, who was subjected to brutal torture by his son, Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Kot Deewan, Pakpattan district, for refusing to transfer the agriculturallandtohim,wasreferred to Ghurki Trust Hospital, Lahore, given the severity of his wounds. He died at the hospital late on Tuesday.

After Bashir`s death, Pakpattan Sadarpohce registered a murder case against his son Nazir on the complaint of the victim`s wife, Sakeena Bibi.

According to sources close to the family, Nazir Ahmed, a father of four, would often quarrel with his father overthe land transfer issue.

They said only Bashir`s wife Sakeena was present at the house when he was attacked by his son. The old man was rescued by some locals when Sakeena raised an alarm.

He was shifted to the Pakpattan District Headquarters Hospital from where the doctors referred him to Ghurki Trust Hospital, Lahore. Saddar police Station House Of ficer Mr Waqas said the old man had suffered multiple fractures and injuries at the hands of his son Nazir, who fled the scene. Police were looking for him, he added.

Bashir`s son-in-law Akram told Dawn that the deceased was not transferring the land to his son because he wanted to give his daughter her due share in the hereditary land.

District Police Officer Ismail Kharak has taken notice of the incident and orderd early arrest of the suspect.
