Farmers irrigating fields with MC`s waste water

TOBA TEK SINGH: Kamalia Municipal Committee`s (MC) sewage is being drained into Wahgi minor canal near Chak 712-GB as there is no other arrangement to dispose of the waste.

Farmers are forced to irrigate their vegetable fields with the same polluted water and the harmful produce is being supplied to local and other nearby vegetable markets.

Kamalia public health engineering department sub-divisional officer Abdul Khalig claimed that a big project to dispose of the waste water of Kamalia city was under construction with Rs480 million. Another project of a cemented watercourse was also under way with Rs98.2 million. Af ter both schemes were complete the waste water would be supplied throughthem to Punjab`s second biggest forest located near the Ravi bank.

ARREST: Gojra city police on Wednesday registered a case against five men for allegedly attacking Gojra MC staffers for stopping them f rom organising a `sasta bazaar` in New Plots locality, and arrested two of them.

MC chief officer Zahid Rafiq Tarar told police that Muhammad Ashraf, Abdul Rehman and their three accomplices had set up a sasta bazaar without seeking approval from the committee and were collecting money from stall owners.

When MC antiencroachment staffers attempted to stop them from setting up their illegal bazaar, they attacked and injured them. Gojra city Station House Officer Rana Muhammad Yar arrested both main suspects but their accomplices managed to flee.
