KTH rejects concern about dengue treatment

Bureau Report 2017-11-09
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Teaching Hospital has clarified a news report published in Dawn on Nov 6 about WHO`s concerns that flawed treatment was given to dengue patients in the province, and insisted that the treatment had rather reduced mortality rate from the disease.

Less than one per cent people died of dengue at the KT H, an internationally permissible limit, a statement issued by the hospital said. It pointed out that the hospital received 90 per cent of the total dengue patients in Peshawar who were handled professionally.

Quality care is top priority, especially for sufferers of dengue hemorrhagic fever, noted a meeting of the members of Clinical Executive Board here on Wednesday.

It noted that the report was incorrect and misleading and was printed without a professional insight and without considering the services provided since the outbreak of the vector-borne ailment in July.

Having services of internationally acclaimed clinicians and medical faculty, the MTI KTH had received 78,296 cases for screening, of which, 17,556 were declared positive while number of in-patients was 4,701 and 4,624 were discharged after recovery, the statement said, adding it was excellent indication of the services being provided to people.
