MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage girl is said to have consumed rat poison after she was allegedly raped by her teacher in a village of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

She was taken to a hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

The 15-year-old resident of Karela Payin Village, District Kotli, was allegedly raped by her teacher who would routinely take her to his home after school for teaching and then drop her off home, according to the complaint the victim`s father lodged.

On Tuesday, when her parents were in Lahore to enquire after a relative`s health, the suspect is said to have taken the girl on his bike to his shop where he assaulted her and took her back home at about 2am, according to Nakyal Station House Officer Faisal Siddique.

The victim told her parents about the incident the next day when they came home.

Thursday morning, the girl consumed rat poison and was taken to the Nakyal Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, the SHO said.

He added that a medical exam confirms that the child was raped.

The police have recorded the victim`s statement. The SHO said the suspect was apprehendedfromhishouse and a case was registered against him for rape and against the victim for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to herself. Staff Correspondent
