KARAK, Dec 8: Different rights organizations of Karak stopped supply from the province`s largest oil field Nashpa and besieged the dehydration plant of Oil and Gas Company (OGDCL) on Sunday to protest the low gas pressure in the district.
The protesters belonging to Khattak Ittehad, Khattak Qumi Tehreek, Karak Welfare Organisations and traders` organisation also demanded recruitment of local people in the oil and gas companies working in the district.
Led by KI president Maulana Mirzageem, KQT patron-inchief Noor Ahmad Khan, Anjuman-i-Ahlyan Behbood-i-Abadi Karak president Captain (retired) Lizat Shah and Anjuman-iTajiran district president Haji Ayub, the protester reached Nashpa oil field in a vehicular procession and staged a sit-in outside the dehydration plant.
They demanded installation of separate gas SMS for Bahaderkhel and Nari Panos union councils. They said that they would render every sort of sacrifice for the rights of Khattak tribe.
The protesters also stopped movement of personnel and vehicles of OGCDL. The supply of crude oil remained suspended from the oil field.
The protesters said that the sit-in and besiege of the oil field would continue till acceptance of their demands. The sit-in was in progress till filing of this report but no official of district administration and gas companies visited the protesters.
POWER SUSPENSION: The rights organisations have threatened to hold protest demonstrations against unscheduled power loadshedding in the district.
Addressing a joint meeting, Chountra Welfare Organisation president Ishaq Khattak, Banda Qumi Jirga president Rafiullah and Countra Qumi Jirga president Ali Marjan expressed resentment over the prolonged power suspension and said that Pesco was observing 18 hours loadshedding on daily basis.
They demanded of the government and Pesco to observe loadshedding according to a schedule. They said that they would not tolerate unscheduled loadshedding anymore in the district.
They threatened to launch a protest movement if power loadshedding was not observed according to schedule.
