Pakistan, China agree on `experts working group` for energy projects

BEIJING: Pakistan and China have decided to constitute an `experts working group` to discuss energy scenario and other projects, and their financing.

The decision was taken at a meeting between federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif and Chairman Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Jiang Jianqing on Thursday.

Both sides agreed to form a working group of experts to discuss financing that could be provided by the ICBC for fasttrack projects, including hydel power, infrastructure and equipment manufacturing in Pakistan.

The two sides nominated their respective focal persons for the working group.

Khawaja Asif informed Mr Jiang about various energy projects envisioned by the government. He said these projects had immense potential and invited the Chinese investors to participate, especially in coal-based Gaddani Power Park, Solar Power Park in Punjab and wind and hydel projects such as Bhasha, Dasu and Bunji dams. Mr Jiang said he had held meetings with a number of Chinese investors who were keen on working in Pakistan`s energy sector.-APP
