THIS refers to the article `The mutawwa are coming` (Dec 4) which has severely criticised the government officials who are visiting schools along with armed police guards to ensure that the education of the Holy Quran is being imparted.
They are being portrayed as strongmen spreading `fear among children` because ofthe presence ofweapons.The comment is certainly misplaced and lacks logic. What about the security guards carrying guns who remain posted outside the school gates? Does their existence cause panic or a sense of security among the schoolchildren and their parents? It is wrong to call Pakistani students unfortunate simplt because they are being asl(ed to learn to read the holy book.
One must realise the importance of this sacred education in our context instead of spreading misconceptions in society.
