TEL AVIV: A British note protesting at the shooting down on Friday of the five RAF planes was handed back today [Jan 9] to the British Consul-General in Haifa, Mr Cyril Marriott because the so-called Israeli authorities said that it was wrongly addressed. A Jewish spokesman said it had been addressed to the `Jewish authorities in Palestine`, a term the `Israelis` do not recognise. He added that the authorities were aware of the contents.

because it was not addressed to the `Government of Israel.` ... An official at the British United Nations Headquarters said the memorandum was `firm` in tone.
