ABBOTTABAD: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) president Professor Zafarullah Chaudhry has asked junior doctors to get their post-graduation qualification in emergency medicines, which is badly needed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was addressing a seminar titled `fellow supervisor moot` organised at the Ayub Medical College here on Sunday.
The seminar was attended by the CPSP fellows from Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad and other parts of Hazara division, including doctors from CMH Abbottabad and its council members.
Dr Chaudhry said that training was as important as education and the main objective of the CPSP was research based study and training. Currently, he said that CPSP fellow stu-dents were in great demand in the world especially in Ireland. He said that different countries, including China, were copying research methodology of CPSP.
Dr Chaudhry said that CPSP had the distinction of receiving the best centre of excellence award among 56 countries in a ceremony held a few months ago, adding that the CPSP fellowship system was more transparent than that of other countries.
He pointed out that CPSP had been making continuous efforts for bringing dynamic changes in the health sector to improve the skill and capabilities of doctors. `Currently, more than 17,000 trainees are enrolled in different centres across the country,` he added.
The CPSP president said that the college would hold the FCPS examination through online system for which computers and laptops would be provided to interested doctors on nominal charges. He added that the examination would now be held every two months instead of twice a year.Mr Chaudhry said the college had been generating its own revenue through health professional programme and didn`t need help from the government or other sources.Members of the CPSP council, including Professor Abdus Sattar Memon, Dr Pervez Asghar Butt, Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, Maj-Gen (retired) Dr Suleman, Professor Shoaib Shafi, Professor Naqibullah, Dr Mumtaz Ali Marwat and Dr Akbar, also spoke on the occasion.
