KARACHI: Indus Motor Company (IMC) has recalled almost 10,000 different models of Toyota Corolla owing to brake problems.
However, the company on Thursday denied that the move was a `vehicle recall`.
A company spokesman said IMC invited over 9,000 customers for free car wash and check-up of brakes.
`Corolla 2016-17 models of selected serial numbers have been invited for inspection of under-torque of front caliper bolts because the company wants its customers to enjoy world class luxury and comfort with highest level of safety and quality,` he said.
The problem emerged in 7,892 units of XLI and GLI Corolla 1,300cc, 1,020 vehicles of 1,600cc Altis and 984 units of 1,800cc Altis and Altis Grande of 2016-17 models all over the country. The cumulative figure of the recall based on serial numbers of these models comes to 9,896 units.
Surprisingly, the website of IMC has not mentioned these details so far despite the fact the company had informed the customers through print media advertisement campaign in the first week of this month.
It is a global norm and standard that vehicles are called for inspection or recalled if a malfunction is anticipated.
Disagreeing that this move by the IMC is a recall, the spokesman said, `There is a difference between a special service campaign and vehicle recall.
Recall is made when faulty parts are discovered and needed to be replaced whereas in special service campaign checking and adjusting is done only which may not necessarily based on fault.
