THE low intelligence quotient (IQ) of Pakistanis is a complex issue with a range of contributing factors. One key aspect is the prevalence of consanguineous marriages in Pakistan, where more than half of all marriages are with first or second cousins. This practice can lead to a higher incidence of genetic disorders and reduced intellectual capacity, as the children of such marriages are more likely to inherit genetic defects from their parents.
Another factor that may contribute to low IQ in Pakistan is the prevalence of ideologies that discourage critical thinking. Many Pakistanis are more inclined to repeat and reinforce the established beliefs and narratives rather than engage in independent thought and analysis. This can limit the ability of individuals to think creatively and come up with new ideas.
In addition, the selection of women for marriage based on their level of education and ability to think critically may also play a role in this regard. Whenwomen are chosen for their submissiveness and lack of intellectual ambition, it can lead to a perpetuation of low IQ within families and communities.
Even when women are intelligent, they may be discouraged from using their mental abilities and encouraged to focus on traditional gender roles, such as childbearing and domestic chores.
Other factors that may contribute to low IQ in Pakistan include a diet and environment that is filled with toxins. My own daughter had lead toxicity, which no doctor in Pakistan could imagine to be the contributing factor in her delayed talking ability. It was only when I was lucky enough to land in the United States that the extreme level of lead in her blood was detected. We were subsequently advised to take some precautions which lowered her lead levels and she started talking at the age of four-and-a-half years.
Other related factors include a lack of proper nutrition to support mental health, and a focus on physical health at the expense of intellectual pursuits. To address these issues, it will be necessary to take a multi-faceted approach that includes efforts to promote healthy reproductive practices, encourage critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, and support initiatives that promote better nutrition and a healthier environment.
