67 booked for attacking polling station in Kasur

KASUR: Chunian police on Friday booked 67 persons, 17 of them nominated, allegedly for an attack on the Government Boys Elementary School, Jamshair Khurd, polling station and snatching polling material, including ballot papers.
The police claimed to have arrested seven of the suspects, recovering the snatched material from them.
The case against the suspects was registered under various sections, including 395 (dacoity), 353 (assault or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 427 (mischief causing damage), besides section 7 of the AntiTerrorism Act 1997, and 196 of the Election Act 2017.
According to the complainant, Presiding Officer Ijaz Ahmed, inPP-181, at least 67 people carrying arms and clubs forced their entry into the polling station while the process of counting votes was in progress.
The FIR said the suspects held the staff concerned at gunpoint, used abusive language against the officials and took away ballot papers and other polling material.
The suspects include Usman, Ali Husnain, Shakeel Ahmed, Amjad Abbas, Bilawal, Bilal, Sajid, Munir, Mohsin, Amir, Khaliq, Ilyas, Achhi Tiger, Ijaz, Naveed, Humayoun, Niamat and others.
Later, the police claimed to arrest seven of the suspects, saying raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining suspects.
District Police Officer Tariq Aziz has constituted a team headed by SP Investigations Shahid Mahmood to probe into the matter and to arresttherestofthesuspects.
