KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Sunday demanded justice for a trader who died in police custody.
JI-Karachi chief Monem Zafar attended the funeral prayers of the trader, Waqasuddin, who died in the custody of the Preedy police a day ago.
Speaking to the media, he urged the authorities to complete the investigation within three days, calling it an `open-andshut case`.
He demanded exemplary punishment forall those involved. The JI leader stated that the police are supposed to safeguard lives and possessions of the people, but unfortunately, the law enforcement agency has become notorious because of its conduct.
He said that the general behavior of the police to common man is not good unfortunately. He said that the police department has lost the trust of people because of `black sheep` in it.
He also urged the authorities to purge the police department of these `black sheep` in order to restore the trust of masses and to maintain law and order, and peace in the society.
