Woman commits suicide after strangling her minor son

SAHIWAL: A middle-aged woman allegedly committed suicide on Monday after attempting to strangle her three children, one of whom died, at Sadu Piplee village in Pakpattan district.

As per locals, Shaheen Bibi, a mother of three, had frequent quarrels with her husband Tariq Shah, a farm labourer and resident of Sadu Piplee village over lack of money.

They said on Monday the couple quarreled again over some financial issue during which Shah again tortured Shaheen, who also worked as amaid to meet the expenses.

Later, when Shah left the house, Shaheen, in a fit of rage, attempted to strangle her minor children --Fahad Ali, Batool Fatima and Ihtasham Ali.

As a result of strangling, Fahad Ali died, while the other two children passed out.

Considering all the children dead, Shaheen allegedly committed sulcide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. A local woman who went to the house later found Shaheen`s body hanging and raised an alarm.

Pakpattan Saddar police station incharge Jahanzeb Ahmed said two of the children -Batool and Ihtasham -who luckily survived were shifted to the district headquarters hospital where their condition was said to be critical.

He said the bodies of Shaheen and Fahad were also shifted to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.The police were interrogating the victim`s husband, he added.

LAND RETRIEVED: Chichawatni administration with the help of police retrieved total 13 kanals and 17 marla land, including six kanals reserved for a Christian cemetery, that was under illegal occupation.

As per Chichawatni Assistant Commissioner Raja Muhammad Qasim, the retrieved land meant for the Christina graveyard had been under illegal occupation of land mafia for the last four decades.

Official sources said the land mafia was being backed by a leading politician of the area.

Local administration used bulldozers and tractors to demolish the illegal structure erected on state land.

The AC assured the local Christians that the retrieved land would be used as a graveyard for the minority community.
