RECKLESS driving of minibuses and public coaches in Karachi is a serious issue thatleadsto accidents and takes away many innocent lives every year.
Most of the accidents are caused by divers` negligence and failure to follow the traffic rules either deliberately or otherwise. Some minibus drivers are even found under the influence of some kind of intoxication.
I witnessed one such accident recently when two buses were trying to outpace each otherin search ofpassengers.
While overtaking, one of the minibus drivers lost control over the vehicle, mounted a footpath and hit a woman walking on it. The woman, fortunately, survived, but was critically injured.
Such episodes happen every day in almost all parts of Karachi.
The association of transporters should investigate such accidents in Karachi, ask the drivers to resist the temptation of being reckless while driving and, instead, follow the traffic rules diligently.
