Plea for field staff hiring in power coys

LAHORE: Electricity workers continued their protest against price hike and the proposed privatisation of power distribution companies by staging a protest rally here on Thursday.

The rally was held under the aegis of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union.

Addressing the rally, the workers` leaders sought intervention of the prime minister for the recruitment of line staff.

They said the officers were being recruited while no recruitment of the field staff had been made for the last six years.

They also demanded security for the field staff during the course of prevention of power theft.

More than 50,000 FIRs had been lodged against the lawless elements, but not a single accused had been convicted, they said.

They opposed privatisation of Guddu Thermal Power House and distribution companies.

Through a resolution, they asked the government to raise wages of the workers employed in electricity companies as well as industries, commerce and trade commensurate with price hike. They also urged the government to check price hike. The workers leaders demanded the government regularise daily wagers and contract employees working in distribution companies for years.

The rally was addressed, among others, by union president Abdul Latif Nizamani, joint president Haji Ramzan Achakzai,generalsecretaryKhurshid Ahmad and KP provincial chairman Haji Iqbal Khan.

PTC: In Sahiwal division`s three districts -Okara, Sahiwal and Pakpattan -Police Tahafazz Centres (PTCs) have been established for the resolution of problems of vulnerable communities, especially the transgenders.

It was said by Regional Police Officer Mian Mehboob Rashid after inaugurating a PTC at the district police office along with DPO Mansoor Aman.
