Collective efforts urged to protect people from dud bombs

BAJAUR: Participants of a seminar here on Wednesday stressed the need for collective efforts to save people from the hazards of unexploded explosives and weapons.

The seminar arranged by Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with district administration was meant to mark International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistant in Mine Action 2025. It was arranged at Government College of Management Science, Khar.

People from different walks of life, including elders, religious scholars, educationists, social and political activists and officials of Pakistan Red Crescent Society attended the event.Teachers, students, people with physical disabilities and officials of district administration and Physical Rehabilitation Centre also participated in the seminar.

PRCS local chapter secretary Javed 1qbal said that though International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistant in Mine Action was observed globally on April 4 every year.

However, he said, they didn`t observe the day on April 4 due to Eidul Fitr holidays.

He said that more than 100 million people were at risk from landmines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices across the world.

He said that Bajaur was included in the areas where explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordinance were present ina large number.

The participants of the seminar were thoroughly briefed through multimedia presentation by professional volunteer Shah Khalid.

Abdul Malik, a victim of landmine blast, shared his feelings with the audience and urged them to follow safe measures in life to protect themselves from such incidents.

The assistant commissioner, Dr Sadiq Ali, head of rehabilitation centre Dr Azizur Rahman, district youth officer Farhadullah, principal of college Prof Mohammad Ayub, All Bajaur Disabled Persons Association president Bakhtawar Jan and others also addressed the event.

They called for making collective efforts to promote safe behaviour measures among locals.

An awareness walk was also held after the seminar.
