KARACHI: After initiating process to dismiss more than 800 Sindh policemen under Supreme Court orders after an inquiry committee comprising senior officers of the institutions found them `illegal`, the inspector general of the Sindh police on Monday set up another committee to review the case of every individual before nnally removing them from job, said a statement, hinting that many of them might not be dismissed.

The decision came after a series of protests by the Sindh reserve police personnel who received show-cause notices after the Sindh police initiated the process to dismiss them from service. The brief statement from the central police office (CPO) did not define a mechanism to review the merit for those 820 policemen who had been found illegally appointed by the police team itself.

`Sindh IG A. D. Khowaja has set up a committee led by DIG rapid response force Dr Amin Yousufzai and comprising AIGestablishment Naeem Sheikh and SSP Sindh reserve police Abdul Hameed Khoso regarding the issue of dismissed employees,` said the statement. `The Sindh has directed the committee to file a report within eight days after reviewing cases of those employees who were appointed on merit and according to the defined rules.

More than 800 Sindh policemen are facing dismissal from their services as the process initiated by the law enforcement agency under the Supreme Court orders is near to complete its course after an inquiry committee comprising senior officers of the institutions have found them `illegal` appointees.

The decision to dismiss a total of 820 policemen came under the Supreme Court orders after weeks of exercise launched by the Sindh police and in the first phase detected illegal appointments in the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Hyderabad, which were made during two consecutive years.

After the committee completed its job, the SRP DIG was asked to issue to all of them show-cause notices, which would lead to their dismissal.
