PESHAWAR: The internally displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency on Tuesday warned that they would march on Islamabad after three days if the authorities didn`t ensure their repatriation.

The warning was issued by the members of Dandi Darpakhel tribe, including students, after they set up a protest camp outside the Peshawar Press Club.

The participants shouted slogans for the early rehabilitation of IDPs.

Tribal elders Malik Iqbal, Haji Mustafa, Malik Asadullah, Mohammad Noor Gul and Malik Qadir Zaman told reporters that the political administration of North Waziristan Agency was creating hurdles to their early return to homes.

They claimed that their household items had been stolen, while their houses had been demolished but they were not allowed to enter the area.

The elders said the federal government didn`t take the misery of IDPs seriously.

Malik Iqbal demanded the announcement of schedule forthe displaced persons` repartiation and rehabilitation in three days and warned if that didn`t happen, IDPs would march on Islamabad to protest outside parliament house and inform national media and international community about their misery.

He said the people displaced from other tribal agencies had been allowed to return to their homes but ironically, the authorities denied repatriation to Dandi Darpalchel tribesmen without citing reasons.

The elder said the IDPs in question were given repatriation tokens five months ago but the authorities had so far taken no steps to ensure their return to homes.

He complained that around 2,400 families belonging to Dandi Darpakhel tribe were not registered during the ongoing population census and therefore, they would get no development funds from the government.

Other elders demanded early repatriation and rehabilitation of IDPs and said the government should give displaced persons proper compensation for damage to their properties so that they could rebuild houses and shops to honourably earn livelihood.
