KOHAT: All the disgruntled district councillors of Jamiat Ulema-iIslam-Fazl who had formed an alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for removal of the district nazim withdrew from the move on the directives of party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday, bringing an end to the two months long controversy.
The councillors swore to return to the party fold and end its forward bloc and agreement with the PTI for the nazim`s ouster.
In this regard, a meeting was held at the residence of JUI-F secretary general Jameel Paracha which was chaired by district chief Maulana Abdul Hayee who played a key role inresolving the standoff of no-confidence against the sitting nazim of the party, Maulana Niaz Mohammad, under an agreement between the PTI and JUI-F. JUI-F provincial deputy chief Maulana Aziz Ashrafi participated as representative and guarantor on behalf of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The councillors, who attended the meeting, included Ishfaq Bangash, Momin Shah, Shahid Mehmood, Mohammad Faheem, Razia Begum and Almas Begum. The councillors took oath that they would not become a party to any move against the district nazim in future.
However, the case regarding resignation of the district nazim was still in the Peshawar High Court.
PPP PROTEST: Pakistan Peoples Party, Kohat division, staged a protest rally in front of Kohat Press Club against prolonged power cuts on Tuesday.
The agitation was led by party`sdivisional president Nadir Khan Khattak, secretary general Abdul Manan Bangash, district president Abdu r Rauf and a number of activists.
Addressing the protesters, Nadir Khan said that the federal government had adopted step motherly attitude towards the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including that of Kohat division, where the duration of power cuts had exceeded 14 hours. He said that the tribal areas were affected more by the problem.
The speakers also criticised the provincial government for not raising the issue with the federal government and demanding its due right as producer of the electricity.
They recalled that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had claimed in 2013 to end the power crisis within six months, but after four years in power the PML-N had failed to control the problem.
