Relief from heatwave likely tonight

LAHORE: Temperatures in the plains of the country on Tuesday shot up to above their normal value of the month, making weather extremely hot.

The Met office, however, forecast some relief by Wednesday evening in view of likely scattered rain and windstorms to be generated by a freshly wave.

It was extremely hot in Lahore which like many other cities in the country experienced a three-day spell of rain-dipped low temperatures which were at least 10 degrees lower than their normal value of the month.

Wind was hot and sun blazing, making it uncomfortable even indoors. The maximum temperature was 43.4 degrees C and the minimum 24.6 degrees C.

The Met department reported above 40 degrees C temperatures in the plains of the country. The highest maximum tempera-ture was 46.5 degrees which was recorded in Dadu.

The hottest place in Punjab was Bhakkar with a maximum temperature of 46 degrees C.

It said a fresh westerly wave was expected to enter upper parts of the country on Tuesday night and was likely to persist during the next two to three days.The wave was expected to give scattered rain-thundershowers at isolated places of upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Kohat divisions), upper Punjab (Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala divisions), Balochistan (Kalat, Makran, Quetta, Zhob divisions), Lower Sindh (Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Karachi divisions), Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 48 hours.
