LAHORE: A joint team of City District Government of Lahore`s livestock and environment wings raided on Tuesday a locality near Bund Road (Karol Ghaati) and sealed six factories for allegedly extracting oil from dead animals` bones and fats.

According to a spokesman for the city administration, the team got arrested six people who were melting bones and fats in caldrons. The team also confiscated bones, fats and other articles.

Police registered a case against the owners of the factories.

Also, various price control mag-istrates on Tuesday got 118 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging and hoarding.

The officials also imposed a fine of Rs92,500 on several others.

WASA GETS PLOT: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has got a four-kanal plot in Johar Town from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

Wasa has a plan to construct a new building for its head office as its existing structure on Zahoor Elahi Road, Gulberg, is insufficient for the staff. The existing building of the head ofñce also lacks parking area which causes regular traffic congestion on the road.

The approval was accorded af terthe Wasa managing director (MD) formally requested the LDA to allot it a suitable piece of land.

The LDA DG had earlier approved the proposal noated by Wasa for the allotment of plot, three plots (4-kanal each) at Civic Centre, Johar Town, were offered to Wasa to choose from, the minutes of a recent meeting said.

The Wasa MD visited the site and selected a plot measuring 1,692 square metre for its new building. Under the rules, the minutes said, the LDA would charge one third of the per marla reserved price of the plot. Keeping in view the request, the participants of the meeting approved allotment of theplot to Wasa.

`We have issued an offer letter to Wasa for the allotment of the plot it selected,` a senior LDA official told Dawn on Tuesday. He said now it was up to Wasa administration to pay the cost of the plot to LDA that would be about Rs20m.

DEMO: A number of Pakistan Horticulture Authority officials continued their sit-in for the seventh day on Tuesday on Ghausul Azam Road against the government for not regularising their jobs.

They warned that the government either regularise their service or they would protest on The Mall.
