ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of Maj Gen Per Lodin of Sweden as chief military observer and head of mission for the United Nations Military Observer Group in IndiaandPakistan(Unmogip).

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Maj Gen Lodin will succeed Maj Gen Delali Johnson Sakyi of Ghana, who will complete his twoyear assignment on July 2.

The new head has a distinguished military career in the Swedish Army beginning in 1978. Maj Gen Lodin most recently held the position of director of procurement and logistics for the Swedish Armed Forces.

Previously, he was the deputy director of the National Armaments for Sweden from 2012 to 2014.-APP
