NAB to file corruption reference against ex-minister

PESHAWAR: The regional board of National Accountability Bureau on Friday recommended filing of a corruption reference against a former provincial minister, a former secretary of Workers Welfare Board, and others in a case of embezzlement of government funds while acquiring a piece of land.

According to a press release, the board meeting was held under the chairmanship of NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General retired Brigadier Farooq Naser Awan and was attended by directors, additional directors, case officers, senior legal consultants and other officials concerned.

The board recommended filing a reference against Sher Azam Khan, who was elected on PPP ticket in 2008 general elections and had served as provincial minister for labour, ex-secretary of WWB Tariq Awan and other suspects in the case.

It is alleged that the suspects were involved in corruption in acquisition of a land measuring 260 kanals at Shahi Bala, Peshawar. They are alleged to have received as bribe an amount of Rs26 million from the landowner. -Bureau Report
