ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday sought a report on the assets of of ficers of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), their spouses and close relatives.
PAC was scheduled to examine the audit paras of CDA accounts. The members of the committee said since the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) had yet to hold a meeting on the audit paras, the meeting might be deferred.
PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan, however, diverted attention of the members towards the Afghan refugees staying in the federal capital on forged documents.
He censured the chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to the Afghan nationals, adding their travelling on Pakistani documents brought a bad name to Pakistan.
He also sought details of the criteria for the promotion of Nadra of ficials.Mr Khan noticed that Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon was not present in the meeting.
He suggested that the deputy commissioner should be made an of ficer on special duty (OSD). The DC, however, attended the meeting later and told the members that he was scheduled to appear before the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
At this, committee member Saleem Mandviwalla advised him to inform the PAC secretariat of his inability to attend any meeting in advance.
The DC told the PAC that the Afghan refugees were residing in different parts of the city for about two months and they intended to travel to Europe.
He said the district administration had taken up the matter with the relevant authorities. The PAC chairman exchanged harsh words with the DC.
He said the committee will write to the principal secretary to the prime minister against the DC. Malik Asad
