Federal ombudsman seeks reports on Margalla Hills fires

ISLAMABAD: The federal ombudsman has sought record and inquiry reports from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) regarding incidents of fire in the Margalla Hills.

A committee constituted by the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of the federal ombudsman in the human rights case regarding fire incidents in the Margalla Hills held its second meeting on Monday at the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat.

Senior adviser and national commissioner for Children, Federal Ombudsman Secretariat, Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi presided over the meeting which was attended by the chief commissioner Islamabad,chief metropolitan officer Islamabad, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency director general, president Wildlife Management Board, additional attorney general and advocate general Islamabad and representatives of CDA, NDMA and the interior ministry.

It was decided that the chief metropolitan officer, CDA, the ICT administration, Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, PakEPA and NDMA will prepare a draft for standard operating procedures for preventing and handling fire incidents in the Margalla Hills for the consideration of the committee.

The committee asked the chief metropolitan officer to submit inquiry reports of recent fire incidents in the Margalla Hills.
