Verdict in two May 9 riots cases reserved

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday reserved its verdict in two cases related to May 9 riots the Shadman police station attack and burning of police vehicles near Jinnah House after completing proceedings at Kot Lakhpat jail.
ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill would announce the judgments on Monday (tomorrow).
The judge concluded the hearings inside jail in two sessions.
PTI leaders including former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmoodur Rashid are among the accused in these cases.
During the Saturday`s hearing, the accused recorded their statements under section 342 of CrPC besides the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments.
In the Shadman police station case, the court indicted 25 accused out of 41nominated in the challan and recorded statements of 45 prosecution witnesses.
In police vehicles torching case, the court indicted 17 accused, declared seven proclaimed offenders and recorded statements of 65 prosecution witnesses.
CHALLENGED: PTI MPA Imtiaz Mahmood Sheikh has filed a petition with the LHC challenging the suspension of his membership by the Punjab Assembly speaker.
Mr Sheikh filed the petition through Advocate Azhar Siddique, saying during a session, he had pointed out the lack of quorum when four laws were being passed.
As a consequence, he said, the speaker, invoking Assembly Rules 4 and 5, suspended his membership for 15 sittings.
