LAHORE: The Central Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mian Mahmud Ali Kasuri, said here today [Sept 9] that the People`s Party was opposed to any constitutional scheme which envisages Pakistan as a confederation or a combination of four demi-independent states.

If there were any people who held such views on the future pattern of the Constitution, `we will fight them not only in the Assembly but also at the polls and through public meetings`, he added.Staff correspondent [Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Quetta,] The Governor, State Bank of Pakistan, Mr Ghulam Ishaq Khan has said the economy has considerable growth potential and to restore its momentum there is need to ... eliminate a lurking sense of insecurity from the business community and tensions created by confrontations between labour and management. He also said there was need to increase investment and develop expenditure in the private and public sectors and improve operational efficiency of the public sector; launch vigorous efforts to mobilise domestic resources ... reduce the rate of monetary expansion to restrain further rise in prices; exercise caution in resort to deficit financing and consider an upward revision in the support price of wheat and the controlled prices of sugar-cane as incentives to increase their production.
