NEW DELHI: `We are dealing with a situation which is analogous to war and we are going to deal with it on a war basis... . There is going to be no loosening in the future in dealing with this situation,` said Pandit Nehru, Prime Minister of Hindustan, in a broadcast tonight [Sept 9] on the communal disturbances.

Describing the situation as `a very serious crisis` and stating that ... Delhi was `none too pleasant a place to live in,` Pandit Nehru said: `I am ashamed of the things that my people have done and I fear that the disgrace and the consequences of the evil deeds will remain with us for a long time.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Karachi,] Five Muslims were injured when a country-made bomb exploded on Embankment Road, near the Lea Market, Karachi, at 5-15 p.m. on Tuesday [Sept 9]. ... Four young men entered the flats occupied by 23 Muslim women operators in Satnam House near Kashmir Hotel... . They asked the inmates to vacate the flats, otherwise they would be forcibly thrown out.
