`N` men assail hotel, boo Rashid

MULTAN: A number of PML-N activists on Thursday encircled the hotel where Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheilch Rashid was staying, and threw eggs at the building.

Mr Rashid had reached Multan on Wednesday to attend a public meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf scheduled to be held on Friday (today).

Theincidenttook placebefore his arrival to Mult an Press Club located opposite the hotel to address a press conference.

Reports said a number of PML-N workers carrying eggs and banners inscribed with slogans `Go ImranGo` gathered outside the hotel and chanted slogans against Imran and Rashid.

The party workers also tried to entered the lobby of the hotel where Mr Rashid was sitting; however, the hotel management managed to send him to his room.

A police contingent reached the spot and managed dispersal of the crowd. In the meantime, a number of PTI workers also reached the spot.

Addressing the press conference, Sheikh Rashid announced that he would not take any legal action against the PML-N workers who, according to him, had attacked the hotel and damaged vehicles.

`I will not file a case and I forgive the PML-N workers involved in theattack,` he said.

The AWP chief said `Go Nawaz Go` had become a national slogan which he introduced in Faisalabad`s public gathering and `we want to change the system for the betterment of public`.

He said not even a single person was hired on merit during the last 16 months in 69 government institutions.

He alleged that Nawaz and Shahbaz were behind the incident and `civil war can start due to such incidents.

`There are people in the PML-N who want imposition of martial law,` he said.

Meanwhile, the vehicle of Tariq Naeemullah of the PTI was also surrounded by PML-N workers but hewas spared on the intervention of some `N` activists.

PML-N District President Bilal Butt said the protest was peaceful and workers `dispersed peacefully`.

Addressing a press conference, Javed Hashmi said the PTPs public gathering would not affect the results of by-ele ctions in NA-149.

`The people of NA-149 has given one-sided decision into my favour, he said.

Hashmi said: `PTPs public gathering is the part of election campaign for Amir Dogar (an independent candidate and former general secretary of the PPP south Punjab).

`Shah Mahmood is issuing contradictory statements which is a proof that he has accepted his defeat prior to election.
