New `Sound of Music` museum

2026-10-10
A new museum dedicated to T he Sound of Music has opened at Austria`s 17thcentury Hellbrunn Palace, where several scenes from the 1965 film were shot.

The Sound of Music Salzburg museum features nearly 450 items, including costumes, props, posters and music recordings. A centre piece is the gazebo featured in the film`s `Sixteen Going on Seventeen` scene. The museum also explores the real-life von Trapp family story that inspired the Broadway musical and Hollywood film. Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of Georg and Agathe von Trapp, attended the opening.

The museum is open daily until November 1 and is scheduled to reopen next March.
