GILGIT, Nov 9: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah on Saturday inspected routes of Muharram processions in Gilgit city, and also went to the control room established to monitor the mourning processions.
Gilgit deputy commissioner Shah Baz Nadeem and Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ali Zia briefed the chief minister about the security measures taken to meet any untoward incident during Ashura.
Mr Shah was informed that the city had been divided into four sectors and each sector was being supervised by a senior police officer who reported to the control room round the clock.
The officials told the CM that to ensure observance of the code of conduct a number of committees had been formed to stay in touch with the local administration to maintain peace during the month.
The chief minister was told that foolproof security measures were adopted to avert any untoward incident. The chief minister directed the authorities to ensure that CCTV cameras functioned and procession routes monitored properly.Correspondent
