LAHORE: Concerned at likely negative impacts of the increasing population, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has moved the Punjab Assembly for making effective population planning.
A resolution submitted by MPA from Wah Cantt Malik Taimoor with the assembly secretariat on Wednesday said the growing population was wreaking havoc on the economy and making provision of education, health, clean water, and other civic amenities difficult.
Seeing underage marriages as the main cause behind the exploding population, it says it is also adding to genetic diseases.
The resolution demands that the government make effective the population welfare department and ensure implementation of the ban on underage marriages to tackles these issues.
