Minister intervenes to end row between varsity, police

MANSEHRA: Federal Minister for Haj and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Mohammad Yousuf has started efforts for an out of court settlement of the tussle between the University of Hazara and civil and police administration of Mansehra district.
It is to mention here that the varsity`s director administration had moved a local court seeking registration of FIR against DIG Hazara, district police officer and deputy commissioner and their subordinates for allegedly threatening the vice chancellor to arrest him under 3MPO following the charged students blocked the Karakoram Highway on Nov 2 after killing of two students.
Mr Yousuf met separately with vice chancellor Dr Idrees and civil and police officers of Mansehra and discussed ways to defuse the tension.
`Mr Yousuf and the district nazim want early settlement of the dispute so the University of Hazara could restart its academic activities,` Khuram Khan, TehsilNazim Mansehra who belongs to PML-N and who was also part of the discussions, told reporters on Wednesday.
At the meeting, the vice chancellor apprised the federal minister of the situation arising out the killing of two students and subsequent arrest of the protesting students by the police.
Mr Yousuf held another meeting with the district officials, including deputy commissioner Iqbal Hussain, DPO Ahsan Saifullah and district nazim Sardar Said Ghulam, where he stressed the need of peaceful settlement of the tussle between both the parties.
Tehsil nazim Khuram Khan said PML-N district government had been working to secure release of the arrested students.
`Once tensions are defused the petition submitted by the varsity with a local judge under section 22-A would be withdrawn, he added.
It is to mention here that the university has been closed since the tragic incident which occurred at its main campus in Dodial on Nov 2.
