New women`s park opens in Peshawar varsity grounds

PESHAWAR: Families thronged the newly-constructed women`s park of the University of Peshawar, which was opened at a ceremony here.

According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, UoP vice-chancellor Prof Rasul Jan was the chief guest at the opening ceremony attended by Peshawar University Teaching Association president Prof Jamil Chitrali, secretary general Prof Iqbal and faculty members and their families.

Member of overall project Dr Mohammad Iqbal said on this occasion that the site was developed into a women`s park with the great efforts of convener Bahre Karam.

He said that the project costing Rs1.4 million was completed in a month.

Spread over 21 kanals, the park has a six feet boundary wall, lush green surface and many attractions for children to explore because of the installation of modern day swings and slides.Dr Iqbal said that the park had a 1.5km walking track for women. Prof Chitrali praised Bahre Karam for his efforts, saying he had also played his role in developing a mini rest area inside the campus for girl students and a parking area and cafeteria providing services to the students.

Professor Chitrali also disclosed that Rs605 million project had also been initiated to renovate the residential blocks of the varsity employees. He paid tribute to Sheikh Taimur for constructing a rose garden near the University of Agriculture.

In his comments, Prof Rasul Jan asked the families to keep the park clean and plant different kinds of trees so as to make its environment pleasant.

He said that all the contractual teaching staff had been regularised. He dispelled the impression that the UoP was facing any financial hardship.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor formally inaugurated the women`s park and also announced a plantation drive there.
