ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) has ordered a campaign against land grabbers across the city, In a meeting held on Friday, IGP Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan said all resources should be used in the campaign and that assistance should be sought from the relevant departments to track down land grabbers, collect evidence against them and arrest them.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Waqarud Din Syed was also asked to arrange open meetings with residents of the federal capital, especially the rural areas, to get first hand information and complaints against land grabbers, police officials said.

The first such meeting will be held in the Koral police station on Nov 14.

The police of the Rural Zone, consisting of Kural, Sihala, Lohi Bher, Nilor, Shahzad Town and Khanna were asked to prepare a list of land grabbing cases registered with them.

They were also asked to make a brief of action taken by them over the cases so far.

The details will be submitted to the offices of the SSP and IGP and the complainants will be asked to attend the meetings.

The decision was taken after the IGP office was flooded with complaints of land grabbing in the capital.

The complainants had also expressed dissatisfaction with the police response to their complaints.

Police officials said the IGP has directed that a coordinated strategy be made to eliminate land grabbing in Islamabad, particularly in the rural areas.

IGP Khan told Dawn that after assuming charge, he had received many complaints against land grabbing and that the police will take action against land grabbers.

The SSP operations was directed to conduct open meetings with complainants on a weekly basis in all four police zones of the capital, he said.
