Doctors observe token strike in Dir

TIMERGARA, Dec 9: Doctors on Monday observed a token strike against the kidnapping of senior colleague in Peshawar. The protesters hoisted black flags on hospital buildings and wore black armbands.

Dr Fazal Rahim, president of provincial doctors` association, told reporters on the occasion that the government had failed to provide adequate security to senior doctors of the province.

He said their protest would continue till the safe release of Dr Amjad Taqweem. He also demanded of the lawmakers from Lower and Upper Dir districts to use their good offices in recovery of the kidnapped doctor.

ANTI-CORRUPTION WALK: People from various walks of life, including government officials, on Monday organised a walk to mark the International AntiCorruption Day here.

Lower Dir deputy commissionerMohammad Zubair Khan led the walk from his office to the press club. The participants carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans against corruption and earning livelihood through fair means.

Later, a function was also held at the district assembly hall, Balambat where speakers, including journalists and lawyers, said that joint efforts were needed to end the menace of corruption. They also urged the media to highlight news about corruption in order to make it easy for the government to end it. They asked all segments of society to join hands for ending corruption.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said no one would be allowed in the district to be involved in malpractices, corruption or favouritism.

ENCROACHMENTS: Residents of Timergara have complained that growing encroachments along the roadsides have made their lives miserable.

Talking to journalists here they saidpushcarts had occupied the main road causing difficulties for commuters and motorists. They said traffic jams had become routine while the district administration and traffic police had kept silence on the matter.

They demanded of the concerned authorities to take notice of the traffic mess and provide relief to commuters and motorists.

RESULTS ANNOUNCED: The University of Malakand on Monday announced results of MA English, Urdu, Arabic, history and international relations.

According to a press release issued here, in English Ghazal Yasmeen got first position; in Urdu, a private candidate, Aisha Bibi got first position; in history, private candidate Aftab Hussain became first; in international relations, private candidate, Mohammad Lateef Shah grabbed first position and in Arabic, Inayatur Rahman got first spot, respectively.
