KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami secretary general Liaquat Baloch has urged the world peace bodies to shun their `hypocrisy` and take due action against systematic cleansing of Muslims in Burma, now Myanmar.
He was addressing a rally at the Karachi Press Club on Friday which was taken out by the Human Rights Network, Karachi chapter from the Sindh High Court building to the Karachi Press Club. A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the rally to highlight the plights of Muslims in Myanmar.
Speaking on the occasion, JI central leader Liaquat Baloch criticised the United Nations for what he termed `criminal silence`.
He said people across the globe were worried about human rights violations in Burma, but global peace bodies and the so-called super powers were unable to take any solid step to mitigate the miseries of Muslims in the region.
Terming the situation alarming for the global conscience, he said that the bloodshed of Muslims across the world had become a `new normal`.
`The systematic killing of Muslims, including women, children and old people in Myanmar is an example of the worst brutality in the history of mankind,` he said. He was of the view that leaders of Muslim world and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation needed to play their due role in this regard.-Staff Reporter
