SUKKUR: Judge Syed Abdul Rasheed Shah of the Sukkur Accountability Court has called for ruthless accountability to eradicate corruption from society. Addressing a seminar held at the Sukkur IBA University in connection with the International Anti-Corruption Day2024, he remarked that `corruption is a menace that cannot be eliminated with homeopathic treatment, it requires surgery`.
He observed that corruption weakens institutions and hinders economic progress. `The menace in society cannot be curbed until a strict system of punishment and reward is put in place,` he added.
Sukkur region director general of NAB Fayaz Ahmed Qureshi cited the Chinese model where punishment for corruption is death. If such a `surgery` is done in two/ four cases, corruption could be rooted out from society, he said.
