LAHORE: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Saturday expressed anger over appointment of an alleged key player in the Model Town tragedy as Pakistan`s representative in the World Trade Organisation and decided to take up the matter with the WTO in writing.
`We believe that former secretary to Punjab chief minister Dr Taugir Shah`s appointment asPakistan`s representative in WTO is a reward to him from the government for committing a big crime in Model Town. It is really an earthshaking news that has broken hearts of families of the Model Town martyrs,` PAT president Dr Raheeg Abbasi told reporters at a press conference here at Model Town.
Mr Abbasi said his party also planned to challenge Mr Shah`s appointment in the court of law.
He said the seminaries which were not involved in teaching or preaching terrorism shouldn`t beafraid of the recent amendments to the Constitution.
`We are of the view that all seminaries should voluntarily present themselves before the government for inspections rather than criticising the National Action Plan,` he said.
He said it was also need of the hour to start `another Zarb-i-Azb operation against political parties to eliminate the terrorists hiding among their ranks.
He said the PAT would soon announce its new strategy regarding Model Town incident.Dr Abbasi said the Rawalpindi suicide bombing had proven that the government had done nothing for the safety of the citizen as no religious ceremony or place was safe these days.
On the occasion, the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimin senior leader Allama Nasir Sherazi sought necessary steps against those who were funding seminaries involved in terrorism. He also urged the government to ensure safety and security of all schoolchildren in the province.
