Trader among two shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Two persons, including a jeweller, were shot dead by unidentified persons, while four persons were hurt in a grenade attack here on Monday, police said.

An official of Gulbahar police station said Faisal Saeed of Usman Town, Gulbahar, was shot dead by two unknown young men near Ishrat Cinema after exchange of hot words. He died while being shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

Similarly, Shahen Shah alias Shaheen was shot dead by unknown people inside his jewellery shop at Ander Shehr Bazaar, said an official of Khan Razig Police station.

He said local people informed that the two attackers seemed to be the victim`s customers who were sitting with him in the shop.

Following the jeweller`s killing, the traders blocked the hospital road for vehicular traffic, causing problems for commuters. They demanded of the government to provide the business community with security.

They also demanded installation of close circuit cameras on the prominent spots in different bazaars to check movement of suspected people, adding that additional police guards should be deployed to keep vigilance on vehicles and pedestrians.

Meanwhile, in another incident, unknown people threw a hand grenade at a house in Garhi Baloch village in the limits of Paharipura police station, wounding four people.

An official said the four injured included two women, a man and a child, but their names could not be ascertained. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

The source said the blast also damaged a portion of the house owned by one Abu Bakar.

Also, police arrested 24 outlaws, including 19 Afghans, during raids in different areas of Peshawar on Monday. They also recovered weapons from their possession, said an official.
