NEW DELHI: Nathuram Vinayak Godse, 36-year-old assassin of Mr Gandhi was sentenced to death here today [Feb 10] by the Special Court which had been trying him and seven other Hindu extremists for the murder of Mr Gandhi on Jan 30, 1948.
Narayan Dattatraya Apte, a former 35-yearold school teacher, was also sentenced to death for complicity in the murder. Mr Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, 65-year-old exPresident of the Hindu Mahasabba, was the only one of the eight accused found not guilty. He was acquitted. He said: `We want a fair plebiscite. Our people want to go back to the Valley if normal traffic on the Kohala-Uri-Srinagar road is immediately restored.
