BEFORE and after the inauguration ceremony, United States President Donald Trump announced a number of policy statements regarding the uplift of the inflation-ridden US economy. He went on to disclose the imposition of enhanced taxes, duties on imports from China, Mexico and even Canada.
Trump placed a freeze on development funds given to different developing countries, including Pakistan. In all this enthusiasm, Trump conveniently forgot the billions of dollars doled out to Israel in every budget to keep Israel`s economy sustainable, plus billions of dollars` worth of military equipment, vital for continued aggression againstitsneighbours.
The US president should appreciate that these billions of dollars have become a perpetual drain on American economy.
Now, US senators have started raising their voice against the blank cheque offer to Israel. There is a solution to this problem.
Before the inauguration, Trump had proposed to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to become the 51st state of the US, and quite naturally got a good reaction from Canada.
One may suggest that Trump should make such an offer to Israel. If Israel accepts this offer, Trump will be able to save billions of dollars plus equal amounts in arms and ammunitions, which has become a permanent expenditure in the US budget. Such an arrangement would have many hidden benefits for both the US and Israel. The president should give a serious thought to the proposal.
