Motorcyclist killed by water tanker in Manghopir

KARACHl: Incidents of citizens being killed by heavy vehicles continue unabated in the metropolis as another young man died in a traffic accident involving a water tanker in the Manghopir area on Monday, police and rescue services officials said.

The victim was identified as Mohammed Daniyal, 32.

Officials said that he was on his way to work on a motorcycle when the tanker hit him near Rais Centre within the remit of the Manghopir police station. As a result, he fell from the bike, after which he was run over by another vehicle on the road. He died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim had a shop at a city mobile market.

Law permits daytime movement of trucks carrying essential goods: IGP Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon told reporters on the premises of the Sindh High Court that the movement of heavy vehicles carrying essential commodities water, edible oil, construction materials, liquid oxygen and meat on city roads during the day was permitted under the law.

However, he said, it was decided in a meeting with the Sindh chief secretary to restrict the movement of heavy traffic during daytime in order to avoid traffic accidents involving such vehicles in the metropolis.
