PIA steward held in Paris for `possessing` heroin

KARACHl: A flight steward of the Pakistan International Airlines has been detained in Paris for allegedly possessing heroin.

According to sources, PK-749 had left Islamabad on Friday afternoon for Milan, where after a brief stay it left for Paris.

PIA spokesman Mashhood Tajwar confirmed to Dawn that flight steward Tanveer Gulzar, who was on the IslamabadMilan-Paris flight, has been arrested in France. He said the flight had left Islamabad on Friday afternoon and after a brief stay at Milan (Italy) reached Paris on Friday (early Saturday in Pakistan).

He said on its way to hotel the crew was passing through the checks at the Paris airport, when Gulzar was caught with drugs.

He was arrested after heroin was recovered from his possession.

Mr Tajwar said the aircraft in which Gulzar had travelled to Paris returned to Islamabad on Saturday evening. He said Gulzar had been suspended from the service and further action would be taken against him after receiving findings of French investigators.
