No clue to `kidnapped` lawyer

SAHIWAL: Police have no clue to the whereabouts of a lawyer who was allegedly kidnapped by unknown armed men while returning from an investigation proceeding held at Noor Shah police station on March 6.
As per the FIR No 205/25 registered by Noor Shah police under section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), on the complaint of Muhammad Saleem, a cousin of the victim, advocate Rana Zafer Iqbal Chohan attended the investigation proceedings in a case at the same police station.
The complainant said that on his way back from the police station, Chohan was allegedly kidnapped bysome armed men. He apprehended that the lawyer could be killed by the kidnappers to prevent him from pursuing the case registered under sections 447, 511 and 380 of the PPC.
The investigation officer of the kidnap case claimed the police are trying to locate the lawyer through his last GPS location.
ARRESTED: Police and revenue officials claimed to have arrested three men separately for their alleged fraudulent practices with regard to disbursement of Ramazan Negahban Package amount meant forthe deservingpersons.
The suspects were arrested for defrauding beneficiaries of the package at 98/0-L, 45/12-L and 140/9/L villages in Chichawatni tehsil during the past 24 hours.
The action was taken following anumber of complaints about fraudsters illegally extorting Rs300-Rs500 from the package beneficiaries. In the first incident, one Shahbaz Wattoo was caught redhanded by revenue officials for extorting Rs300 from each beneficiary.
In the second incident, a suspect was arrested for illegally selling fake forms of the package for Rs1,000 each to a man, Baber and a woman, Yasmeen, on the pretext of getting them financial assistance.
Similarly, a shopkeeper Rana Abdul Latif, was arrested for extorting Rs300 from each beneficiary of the package.
Dera Rahim and Okanwala police registered separate cases against the suspects under section 420 of the PPC.
