Centre ignoring welfare of Pakhtuns, says QWP

TIMERGARA: Provincial president of Qaumi Watan Party Sikandar Khan Sherpao has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government has failed to initlate even a single development project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last one year.

Addressing a party gathering at Asbanr, Lower Dir, on Thursday, he claimed that the federal government received millions of dollars in the name of Pakhtuns during the last two decades when Pakhtuns` blood was shed like water in the region.

He blamed the centre for ignoring the welfare of Pakhtuns, who had been the worst victim of terrorism and facing the problems of poverty, illiteracy and unemployment.

Mr Sherpao said that people`s problems had multiplied during the last one year rule of PTI. He also criticised Pakhtun nationalist leaders and said that they too did nothing for alleviating thesufferings of Pakhtuns during their five-year rule in the province.

About Tahafuz-i-Pakistan Bill passed by the National Assembly, he said that it was against the basic human rights and should be rejected by people. He said that party chief Aftab Sherpao would unite Pakhtuns after the US troops` withdrawal from Afghanistan.

On this occasion, Jamaat-iIslami`s former union council nazim, Maazullah, quit his party and joined the QWP.

WORKSHOP: A two-week training workshop for madressah teachers held at the University of Malakand ended here on Thursday.

Acting vice-chancellor of Islamia College University, Peshawar, Dr Qibla Ayaz was the guest speaker at the concluding session, while UoM VC Prof Johar Ali Khan was also present on the occasion.

According to a UoM press release, the programme was aimed at educating seminaries` teachers about modern teaching methods, importance of research and use of computers. The participants agreed to bridge the gap between formal educational institutions and religious seminaries.

Meanwhile, speakers at a two-day training workshop have asked farmers to use modern tools and techniques to get increased production.

The were speaking at the concluding session of the workshop arranged by the agriculture department, Lower Dir, for pesticides sellers at the farm services center here on Thursday.

Director water management Jamil Khan and assistant director agriculture Murad Ali distributed certificates among the trainees and said that farmers should get knowledge about use of technology for increasing agricultural production.
