Power protesters block road

KOH AT: Power consumers blocked road to protest excessive electricity outages here on Thursday.

They chanted slogans against Pesco, which had stopped power supply from 6am to 3pm the other day, followed by short interval outages continuing till late in the night.

The caretaker of Kohat division seminaries, Maulana Mujahideen, said that electricity was suspended several times in a single hour, leaving consumers in a lurch.

The protesters said that a schedule should be notified before suspending supply of power.

They said that they also faced loadshedding of gas for 18 hours in 24 hours. They said that loadshedding of gas was started after Eidul Fitr, due to which generators could not be run.

Maulana Mujahideen said that poor people could also not install solar system as it cost minimum Rs200,000. He said that there was no solar system in hundreds of seminaries where children and youth were getting religious education.

JIRGA: Elders of warring Bezote tribe of Orakzai and Muhammadzai tribe of Kohat district have agreed to maintain the existing boundary between their areas till perma-nent resolution of the property dispute.

Muhammadzai tribe had been accusing rival Bezotis of illegal constructions, kidnapping of shepherds, who mistakenly entered the erstwhile tribal area, and killing of cattle.

The agreement was reached in a jirga of elders of the two tribes held at commissioner`s house on Thursday. The jirga was chaired by Commissioner Syed Motasim Billah Shah.

MPA Shafi Jan, MPA Aurangzeb Khan, former federal minister Dr GG Jamal Orakzai, former MNA Haji Baz Gul Afridi, local elders and officials of administration and police of both the districts attended the jirga.

Committees were formed, consisting of four elders from each tribe, to attend the next session of jirga along with relevant revenue documents after consulting with their respective tribes. Shafi Jan and Aurangzeb Khan will head the committees.

After consultations, the jirga will continue until the boundary dispute is permanently resolved. The commissioner appreciated elders of both the tribes for addressing the dispute amicably and said that their efforts would bring progress and prosperity to the region. Correspondent
